Tears In My Eyes
March 31, 2007
This isn’t a joke. Over the past two days, I have seen TWO AND A HALF COCONUTS on the York campus. Please understand that York is a campus of concrete and cars and leafless trees and there is no reason for a coconut to be laying randomly in the massive parking lot adjacent to Steeles Avenue. Or for one and a half to be scattered on Campus Walk near the Computer Sciences building.
COCONUTS!!?!?!?
I thought about taking pictures of them, because I don’t think anyone will believe me.
Too Excited!!!!!!!!
March 31, 2007
I’m sooo unbelievably pumped to show my finished film. I can’t believe it’s turned out as well as it has. I’m ridiculously proud of my footage. It came out EXACTLY as I had pictured it when I wrote my proposal. Everytime we screen it for people, they lose their minds.. I’m no exaggerating. My T.A. Susan was going over it with me last night in the editing room, and she was telling me how the first time we screened in for our class, a group of guys were freaking out at our shots and she thought to herself: “Eat your hearts out!” heeheehee. I love it!
When we got to a certain segment of the film yesterday, she exclaimed “It just looks so FRENCH!” and I kinda sorta died of happiness. We’ve had quite a few people say that about it too. Heehehehe.
This weekend is soundtrack weekend. I’m thinking of using sounds from our sound effect bank, stuff I created in Reason and Logic, really heavily produced voice-overs for some parts, and then extracts from a couple copyrighted songs. We’re mixing everything on ProTools. It should be very exciting.
The big screening is April 11th in the 500-seat Accolade Cinema. The screen is THREE STORYS HIGH! I feel like it’s my “premiere” as a filmmaker, it’s not just me showing my stuff off my laptop anymore. Our teacher is going to be projecting everything, and playing our soundtracks off of CDs, making sure to hit the “2″ on the SMTPE leader (that’s the countdown).
They’ll all be transferred to DV-CAM after the screening so I’ll upload it for everybody to download (not YouTube), so everyone can see it as best quality as possible.
I’m so unbelievably happy right now!!!!!!!!!!
FACS Installation Art Fair
March 31, 2007
So for my Fine Arts Cultural Studies class, our final project was a group assignment where we try and create a piece of “interdisciplinary art” a.k.a Intermedia, Fluxus, blah blah.
My group came up with this weird installation thing plucked from the Iraq Friendly Fire Cockpit video, we built a wall of images and transparencies, it made a lot of sense.. and I just can’t go into the full details right now because I’m in picture mode! Hahaha, basically each group from the class of 300 was assigned a location in one of three connected buildings: Center for Film & Theatre, Center for Fine Arts, and Accolade West. We were in ACW but were in this really bad location that nobody came to. So after we presented our “piece” to our T.A. we took a spool of string, and taped it to the floor, all across the main lobby, into the stairwell, up three or more flights of stairs, out the doors on the third floor, and all the way to the door of our tutorial room. It was soo much fun. People were AMAZED, they could see the ground floor from the third floor and couldn’t believe it was one continuous piece of string ALL THE WAY DOWN. We were bored, what can I say?
Here are some of the photos:

OH YA! FIRST, we made giant arrows towards our installation on the floor with electrical tape, and THEN we started with string.

St-Patrick’s PARADE!
March 30, 2007
So here are the photos from St-Patty’s weekend in Montreal. It was ridiculously fun. I had far too many Irish Car Bombs.. far too little food… and not nearly enough sleep. It was wonderful. And now we have a gazillion inside jokes. Julia, I’m so sorry I crashed drunkenly asleep at 6 pm. (We woke up again at 10 and danced and got ready to go out again.. hehehe)
On our way to Blizzarts Saturday night:

More Than A Feeling

Bet you were caught off guard…. yeah.. That was at Reading in 1992.
Brad Delp, the lead singer of Boston, died on Friday. Pitchfork had both these videos as well as the original up as tribute.
Ow! My Inner Ear..
March 2, 2007
Wow, so today was an amazing day!

It’s been a full-out blizzard here since about 1 p.m. Blowing snow, drifts building up, classes half-empty and ending early so we all “got home safe” (which I thought was a little wimpy considering what we normally deal with in Montreal – euh).

Steph and I in class:

I got home and after printing out a few twenty-page academic papers on the “Democratic Deficits of Multilateral Organizations” etc. sat down to start reading – and fell asleep. I woke up around 9:30 and considered going straight back to sleep til tomorrow morning, but then I started thinking about pepperoni, and really started craving pizza. But it was a blizzard out there, and pizza meant walking from rez to the Student Center.. and then I started playing with the idea of Domino’s but wondered if they would actually deliver considering the weather. Ultimately I got up, and looked out the window, checked the Student Center hours to see if the pizza place was actually still open – hurrah! it was, so I put on boots, etc. packed my research and headed out.
Yum pizza! Sat in the Student Center and read the entire article, had my pizza, then thought about heading over to 2cup for something sweet. Tori was working and Josh was sitting over in the employee area, so I had free Irish Cream cheesecake, and hung out with them for about an hour talking about random funny things and laughing hard.
At around quarter to twelve I got up to leave and started heading out to the parking lot to move my car. I knew it had snowed over the past few days and if I didn’t move it soon it would be encased in a large block of snow and near-impossible to get out.
(The last time that happened was last weekend when I was leaving for Montreal – There was about a foot of hard-packed snow up to the windows, and under the entire length of the car, I couldn’t see my wheels! I don’t have a shovel so I kicked my way into the car – turned it on, kicked away SOME snow from behind the wheels and then got in to see how it would move. Wasn’t moving backwards at all, but then I turned the wheels and the entire car spun 90 degrees to the right and I just drove straight out. I never loved her more than that moment, and swore never to leave her buried in snow ever again.)
When I got outside I realized FREEZING RAIN had started falling and now not only would my car be in snow, it would be in snow, encased in ice – nice. I slid out to the parking lot, and saw that the trucks were in the middle of clearing the lot, and of course, my car had snow ALL around it. I started kicking my way in, but both trucks pulled up and the guys got out and started helping me, hahaha. After kicking some of the snow away, they told me to get in and see if I could get out. Lots of spinning. Then one of the guys said he would try, he got in, reversed and the other guy pushed the front of the car, and my little baby zoomed out!! I thanked them and they asked me why I came out to move it if I was just going to keep the car in there, AND THEN ASKED ME IF I SMOKED POT.
AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SO AWESOME!
I said nope. lol. Moved my car around to another spot, and waved bye to them.
I can’t shake the thought of stoned men in snow plows. It’s kind of terrifying.
But it’s a damn great story.
