Condom Olympics

August 31, 2006

On Wednesday we had the Condom Olympics in Winters Quad. It was…interesting. I mean.. do you know that 28 pitchers of water can fit into a single condom?

Look!

Hurrah! Drunk At York!

August 31, 2006

Yay! First drunken night at York! It’s very exciting! Not only did I find a girl who was cool… but she’s also 19 and LEGAL! SO WE PARTIED IT UP!

I discovered the Kinesiology residence. It’s the Stong highrise. 14 floors of jocks. Hahaha, it was definitely a change from the naive theatre boys.

Also, Steph and I hit up the coolest bar on campus: The Absinthe. It totally rocks, and we totally rock because we are legal and can go in there!

I’ll post loads of pics tomorrow.

P.S. I met the cutest business student named Queenie, and she also says “P.S.” all the time.

P.P.S. It’s 3:16 am and the Winters party is still going on… why? Because WINTERS ROCKS!! woooooo!!

For your enjoyment:

Soo, the theme for Frosh is reality tv. There are a bunch of different groups, like.. I’m part of the Po’Pos…as in the show COPS. There’s also Pimp My Bride and spoofs on a whole bunch of other shows. It kinda rocks. My group boss totally rocks, she looks a lot like Nicole Bastet, it’s really freaky. She’s a theatre major, like just about EVERY OTHER STUDENT THERE. It’s really intense, Film students are an endangered breed, and FEMALE Film students are just unheard of, I mean, there is ONE other girl who’s starting Film with me. Makes me feel kinda special, yo.

I had missed the pizza dinner, but I got to learn the Winters cheers with everybody and that was really really fun actually. I can’t remember them all and if I wrote them here they just wouldn’t have the kick they do in person. Hahaha.

Then we had an intense battle of There Ain’t No Flies On Us with Maclaughlin College. They’re our closest buddies, and we love them, but we also love to kick their ass. Win What? WINTERS!! Win What? WINTERS!!!!!!

I’m feeling pretty patriotic. I mean, we kick ass!

After we beat them down in a pretty raunchy battle, we had ice cream. UNFORTUNATELY, most of us didn’t have bowls or spoons. So, this girl Erin and I McGuyver-ed it up, and ended up using a paper cup, ripping off the top half to use as a spoon. It worked well until the end when we found our hands COVERED in ice cream and sprinkles and such.

Then it was story time, which totally rocked. It was this former theatre student Bear, telling us the most hilarious stories. My face hurt so bad because I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. These were horrible horrible stories about sex and cops and abandoned houses and broken legs and homemade cock rings (no joke – that story was called “Purple Pain”).

Yay Bear!!

Oh yeah we also completely rocked out to the Cha-Cha Slide song by Casper, you all know it, if you don’t recognize it try to remember your high school dances, it was played at every single one I swear.

Here’s a video to help jog your memory:

AND FINALLY, we ended the night with the “Season Premiere Cast Party” in the Quad. Are we Fine Arts students or what?

It was fun, a little too like a high school dance for my liking, but they played basically the same stuff that’s being played in clubs right now, so I just closed my eyes and pretended.

One seriously creepy part of the night was when these boys would try and dance with the girls. It was hard because you’ve been in this mindset all day of wanting to meet people and be outgoing, but when it starts getting creepy you have to remind yourself that not only would you not smile and encourage them in the real world, but they’re also my brother’s age!! EWW! CREEPY!

Then I unpacked, and crashed.

Then it was time for the Cast Party in the Quad at midnight. It was fun, basically dancing around to some seriously great music.

Intro To YorkU: Moving In

August 30, 2006

I really don’t know where to start when it comes to talking about my experience at York so far. I guess I’ll just go straight from the beginning and figure it all out from there.

SO, Moving In:

Was a lot less stressful than imagined. Mom and I arrived around 3:30 and there were Frosh Bosses on every street corner to help us out. Getting to Founders Residence was difficult because the streets on campus are all loop-d-loops but we eventually made our way there. It turned out that the majority of the students had arrived earlier than I did and were almost all entirely moved in. We had to put the move on hold when they held a meeting in the Quad with all the residence Dons. I couldn’t really hear what they were saying and that’s probably not a good thing, but I figure I’m half-genius and can figure anything out if I put even only one of my brain cells to work. Sorry, lol, I know I’m lame.

One thing that I DID hear however was when they were talking about Frosh. I hadn’t gotten anything in the mail from Founders (my Residence College) or Winters (my Faculty College). I had been emailing the guys at Winters Frosh since the beginning of August because I knew I wanted to meet and party with people in Fine Arts as opposed to people in my Res (who I would eventually meet anyways). To get to the point: I didn’t belong to either Frosh showing up there that day and really needed to get that together because it was basically starting after that meeting.

BUT, Founders guys were saying that we HAD to do Founders Frosh because if we didn’t the college council was losing money.. blah blah blah. Whatever. I knew that as soon as I had emptied my car, we were driving over to Winters to get myself set up.

Emptying my car was a breeze, they had about 10 guys whose sole job was to carry boxes up to the rooms. Hurray! I felt really spoiled though, I mean, after moving all my stuff into De Maisonneuve by myself this was heaven!

At Winters everybody was really helpful in showing us where to go for Frosh Kits and when I told them I was from Founders they kept confirming that I was doing the right thing because WINTERS ROCKS.

After some issues trying to find ABMS that worked I was finally set with my GIANT Winters t-shirt, Frosh schedule, and laundry bag stuffed to the brim with bizarre free stuff.

Then it was time for Momma to leave.

I drove her to the subway stop and when she got out to say bye I got really really sad. I just thought about what I had to go back to, and I really started to miss my friends, and she was leaving now too. I was stressed because everybody had already gathered in Winters Quad and I was going to be late and I still had to go back to my room which still had to be completely unpacked and then I was going to have to walk into the Quad all by myself. Ah. I was very nervous. So I teared up a little and hugged my mom. Then it was time to drive back to campus.

And time for Frosh to start.

Uuhhhh Dance Party

August 18, 2006

So awake and semi-chipper this afternoon, I now have the chance to highlight some of the moments from last night that deserve to be mentioned.

1) The Road Trip To Ville St-Pierre:

I had never been to this forgotten area of Montreal before and I was quite surprised it existed. For one thing, I had no idea I had to take the 20 to get there. Or where the 20 splits on the overpass into left (Dorval) and right (Mercier Bridge/St-Pierre), I had NEVER EVER taken the right. So that was exciting. Special thanks to Kike and Poops for their lovely guided tour (“Welcome to Ville..Oh! Now leaving Ville St-Pierre.”)

2) The Elephant In The Car:

Or the extremely large speaker squashing Kike and Poops in the backseat.

3) Marvin On A Street Corner:

And us being very creepy, slowly approaching him in my car, staring out the windows at him. He thought I had mistaken him for a prostitute or something. But luckily when we invited him to the party he was more than excited about it!

4) Dancing By Myself:

Then with other people, and all of us sloshing our drinks around, spilling on the floor. Oops!

5) Cora Has To Pee:

But Kike and Laura were taking a VERY long time in the bathroom.. hint hint.

6) Late-Night Tortellini:

As everyone at different intervals left and came back with food, I started getting hungry too. But considering that I was already home, and in the interests of saving money, I put a pot on the stove and started to boil water for my tortellini. People were quite amused by that, especially when I took out another pot for the sauce and was running back and forth from dancing to stir both.

This morning was not fun however.

Ooh Dance Party!

August 18, 2006

Hooray for dance parties at my empty apartment. Yes, the majority of my roommates are imaginary and I may as well live by myself. So I have wicked dance parties. We bring in the amps and speakers from Ville St-Pierre courtesy of the road trip to said place and Kike. Then we hook up mon laptop and dance dance dance!
